About CilybebyllCilybebyll is a semi-rural community located in the Swansea Valley in South Wales, about 10 miles north of Swansea City Centre and 4 miles from Junction 45 of the M4 Motorway. It is well situated for people wishing to take advantage of facilities in Swansea, and a range of attractions in the wider area, including the Brecon Beacons National Park, and the Gower Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As well as being accessible from the M4 Motorway along the A4067 Swansea Valley By-Pass, Cilybebyll is easily reached along the A474 from Ammanford in the west, and from Neath, where the nearest mainline rail station, with direct links to Cardiff and London Paddington, is situated. Pontardawe – a small rural town that provides many local facilities – is located less than a mile away on the western side of the Swansea Valley, with Cilybebyll situated on the opposite side of the valley across the River Tawe. The main villages in Cilybebyll include Alltwen, Fforestgoch, Gellinudd and Rhos, along with the historic hamlet of Cilybebyll itself, after which the community is named. The Community Council has been an important part of the life of this community for over a hundred years, and its records, retained at the West Glamorgan Archive Service in County Hall Swansea, provide a useful source of reference to the past.
